OROSEI village 12 km from the Hotel.
Orosei is a seaside place situated on the central-oriental
coast of Sardinia. It is a quiet village in the province of Nuoro linked to the
main road trough two state roads that intersect it.
The variuos geological happenings have moulded
this area, giving to it, in a very smal space, a nice alternation of landscapes
thanks to the concomitant presence of the sea and the mountains, of the river
and the ponds, of the alluvial plain and of the basaltic jar.
Thanks to its closeness to the sea, the village
has a quite mild climate during the winter, while during the summer the almost
hot temperature gets colder by the sea breeze.
Thanks to these favourable conditions, Orosei
has become an appreciated touristic centre, provided of the main receptive structures.

It is the architectonic building where mostly
it is possible to breathe the sensation of Middle Age, either for the structures
still preserved or for the glorious institution of a hospital linked at them.
Old castle-prison.
The church of Saint Gavino.
The church of Saint Sebastiano.
Sanctuary of the Rimedio.
It is one of the most typical country sanctuaries
in Sardinia, with the church in the middle surrounded by a small unicellular houses

are at least one hundred little houses that delimit the wide yard
full of trees.
The oratory of the Confraternities.
In the village three confraternities work. They
are called of the Saint Cross, of the Rosario and of the Souls. They are ancient
associations of lays that, wearing a characteristic dress, dedicate themselves
particularly to the practice of worship in their oratories properly built since
their own institution.
Rural houses.
Numerous are the examples of rural architecture
still completely preserved.
Exclusive bulidings.

It is the most beautiful building in the village,
from the architectural point of view.

On 16th and 17th January,
the Feast of Saint Antonio Abate takes place, in the churchyard of the church
that has the same name, with a big bonfire on the eve of the feast.
Rituals of the Holy Week: the most spectacular
cerimonies happen in three processions: Sos Sepurcros, Su Brossolu and S’Incontru
that take place on the Thursday, Friday and in the morning of Easter Day.
On 14th April, it takes place the
country feast of Saint Lucia.
Procession of Saint Isidoro: it is a procession
that takes place on 15th May ( or the following Sunday ) honouring
Saint Isidoro the farmer, whose statue is in the Church of the Grazie. The procession
takes place along the streets of the village with a parade of carts hauled by
oxes attentively decorated by purpose.
The last Sunday of May takes place the Feast
of Saint Maria of the sea with the suggestive procession of boats on the Cedrino
river.
The festival of the Madonna del Rimedio : it
is the longest lasting feast (18 days) in the frame of the famous sanctuary of
Maria. Holy and profane match perfectly together. The day of the feast, in which
the animation arrives at its climax, is on the second Sunday of September.

VILLAGE OF OLIENA . Distance from the hotel
: about 50 km.
A little far from the village there is the carsic
spring of Su Gologone, in an extremely suggestive landscape, surrounded by a little
wood of wild oleanders and dominated by the rustic church of Saint Maria.
Continuing, it is possible to reach the Lanaitto
valley, placed in the middle of big calcareous ridges developed in a series of
endless gorges, crevasses, neddles and frightening swallows.
In the gorges, there are the entrances to some
suggestive caves with spectacular undergroung little lakes : among these "
Sa Oche ", " Su Bentu " ( probably the longest in Italy ) and the
cave of " Corbeddu ", that nowadays has a particular archeological and
paleontological interest.
Next to the Lanaitto valley there is the Tiscali
mountain ( to be visited with an experienced guide because of its difficulty to
be reached ), that is a huge calcareous cliff. On its top, in a cave where the
vault failed, was built a little and secret village in the nuragic epoch, of which
a large number of ruins remain. It dominates the valley.
A daylong outing
Few kilometres from the village of Dorgali,
it is possible to visit the nuragic village of " Serra Orrios ", formed
by about 70 huts, some wells, a holy fence and two interesting and rare little
temples made on a rectangular plane: maybe it is the village that is in the best
conditions of preservation among the ones known.
Half a day outing
Along the S.S. 125 Orosei – Dorgali there is
the " Ispinigoli " cave, a wonderful natural cavern already patronized
in the nuragic and punic period, probably used as a holy place. It is said, it
was used for the execution of human sacrifices; moreover it contains a stalagmite
that is 38 metres high, the highest in Europe.
Half a day outing
The gorge of Gorropu is an impressive canyon
characterized by perfectly vertical walls, more than 200 metres high, where endemisms
and other rare botanic species grow.
